The cabinet’s weekly meeting on Thursday is set to discuss the security situation in Sinai and the recent price hikes in the market.
The cabinet meeting will also tackle other legislative and social issues. It will finalise its decision on the new investment law.
The security situation in North Sinai witnessed another hit, with more attacks since early October targeting army conscripts and police officers in Sheikh Zuwaid.
On Wednesday, the armed forces spokesperson Mohamed Samir said the police and armed forces jointly resumed their campaign against militants in Sheikh Zuwaid. In a short video, Samir announced that seven “extremely dangerous” wells were destroyed, six militants were killed, and 16 warehouses were torched, among other explosives and a tunnel opening.
Twelve conscripts were killed, and six others injured in an attack on a security checkpoint in North Sinai last Friday. The armed forces killed 15 militants during fire exchange.
