The interior minister granted a release order for 90 prisoners and granted another 95 prisoners a conditional release, both came in accordance to a presidential pardon in honour of the 6 October War anniversary, according to state media.
No information has been provided on whether political detainees are among those granted a release order.
‘’This comes within the framework of the Ministry of Interior’s keenness to uphold the values of human rights and to apply the Penal Code,’’ read a ministry statement.
Similarly in September, the ministry also ordered a conditional release for 700 prisoners from different prisons across the country in honour of Eid Al-Adha. The order came in a presidential pardon that allowed the prisoners to spend Eid Al-Adha with their families.
