The 2016 Wadi Degla PSA Men’s World Squash Championship concluded its 16th round on Sunday and Monday.
On Sunday, Egyptians Mohamed El-Shorbagy, Ali Farag, and Karim Abdel Gawad qualified for the quarterfinals.
On Monday, another three Egyptians qualified for the quarterfinals, namely Ramy Ashour, Tarek Momen, and Fares Dessuki.
Ashour was qualified to the quarterfinals after he defeated England’s Daryl Selby with a score of 3-1 (11-6, 8-11, 11-5, and 11-8).
Momen beat his fellow compatriot Marwan El-Shorbagy in a match that ended 3-2 (11-9, 9-11, 11-8, 9-11, and 11-3).
Dessuki won against Malaysia’s Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan with a score of 3-2 (13-11, 11-6, 6-11, 12-10, and 6-11).
Last year, Dessuki played against Adnan in the 2015 Men’s Macau Squash Open’s semifinals in China. Dessuki won the match which ended 3-0 (11-5, 11-3, and 11-3).
In this regard, Dessuki stated: “Although we played against each other last year, this time I felt that I am competing with a different player. He was much better this time around.”
Dessuki was the runner-up of the 2015 Men’s Macau Squash Open.
The 2016 Wadi Degla PSA Men’s World Squash Championship’s quarterfinals will start on Tuesday and conclude Wednesday.
Tuesday’s matches include Egypt’s El-Shorbagy against Farag, and Abdel Gawad against England’s Nicholas Matthew.
