An Egyptian club, the Al-Ahly Red Devils, won the 2016 African Handball Champions League, which took place in Burkina Faso’s capital Ouagadougou.

This victory came after Al-Ahly defeated the Tunisian club of Esperance Sportive in the final, with a score of 26-23.

This is the fifth time Al-Ahly won the African Handball Champions League, as the club had previously gained the title in 1985, 1993, 1994, and 2012.

The African Handball Champions League started in 1979 and held its first championship matches in Cairo, Egypt.

The Egyptian club of Zamalek won the league championships nine times, specifically in 1979, 1980, 1981, 1986, 1991, 2001, 2002, 2011, and 2015.

Al-Ahly and Zamalek were not the only Egyptian clubs to win this league, as the Port Said club also took home the crown in 1990.
