The New Cairo Misdmeanours Court adjourned to 10 November the case of former head of the Central Auditing Organisation (CAO) Hisham Geneina during a Thursday session.
Geneina filed an appeal before the court against his one-year prison term for charges of publishing false information. He was also required to pay a fine worth EGP 20,000 and EGP 10,000 as bail.
The top auditor was penalised and prosecuted after making a claim in the press about the amount of corruption in state institutions, estimating it as at least EGP 600bn in 2015.
The statement cost him his job. Preceded by a heavy attack in the media, a presidential decision to dismiss Geneina from his post was issued in March.
Geneina is also appealing that decision before court, mainly objecting to the procedure of his dismissal which he believes did not follow proper legal requirements.
