Journalist and researcher Ismail Alexandarani was granted a release Sunday, according to the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information (ANHRI).
Alexandarani was arrested on 29 November 2015 at Hurghada airport as he returned from Berlin. According to ANHRI, he was immediately taken to State Security prosecution headquarters in Cairo, where he was accused of belonging to an outlawed group and publishing false news.
Since his arrest, Alexandarani’s detention has been renewed by the prosecution.
Alexandarani denied all charges levelled against him, and stressed that all his publications, the latest of which was published in September 2015, are of a journalistic nature comprised solely of facts. Alexandarani, 32, is a socio-political researcher, investigative journalist, and expert in extremists and Sinai affairs.
