The parliament’s Economic Affairs Committee intends to calculate the requests for summons, investigative orders, and inquiries put against the government that were not addressed in the first legislative term.
A member of the committee said that there has been considerable criticism from other members about the ministries’ neglect towards these requests, noting that the parliamentary speaker has not reviewed these requests.
The committee member, who preferred to remain anonymous, said that the committee submitted several inquiries and summons to ministers of the economic group. “More than 20 requests were not addressed,” he added.
He pointed out that the lingering requests against the ministers are related to economic and service aspects in electoral districts.
Member of parliament and of the Economic Affairs Committee Amr El-Gohary said a meeting with the government is set to be held this week to discuss the impact of the flotation of the Egyptian pound and higher fuel prices, as well as the loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
He pointed out that the IMF loan agreement has not yet been delivered to the parliament. The meeting is slated to discuss points related to the deal.
The unnamed source said that MPs are worried that this loan will increase Egypt’s external debts to over $60bn which would burden the public budget, despite the support of the loan.
The House of Representatives plans to resume its weekly sessions on Sunday after a week of vacation that started Saturday through to the end of this week.
