Uber Egypt has partnered with AXA, the number one global insurance brand, for the launch of a new safety programme to cover riders with insurance while on the road.
Uber issued a statement on Wednesday announcing it will provide coverage to its customers for a range of conditions including total, partial, and permanent disabilities, accidental medical expenses, and accidental death during any trip with Uber in Egypt.
The statement said that since November 2014, Uber has been providing the technology to support on demand transportation alternatives in Egypt.
While Uber has always purchased insurance to cover every ride, the company is announcing a new product designed specifically for their operations in Egypt, the statement noted.
“At Uber, we view the addition of this insurance coverage as an important part of fulfilling our goal of reliable, affordable and safe transportation options for all Egyptians,” said Abdellatif Waked, general manager of Uber Egypt.
He added that in light of the current economic situation, people’s expenses are multiplying and that is why Uber is taking the responsibility to cover the rider in case of any mishaps on the road.
He said that Uber provides every rider with the driver’s name, phone number, and licence plate details while requesting the trip, and has also allowed riders to share their estimated time of arrival with their friends and family. With this new insurance partnership with AXA Egypt, Uber is now providing an even more reliable journey during every trip.
The statement noted that AXA has achieved rapid expansion in the Egyptian market since its establishment in 2015 and offers today more than 30 customised products for individuals, families and companies. AXA’s 500 employees work today with more than 2,000 providers and partners in the market to offer a best-in-class service and peace of mind to the nearly 500,000 customers covered and protected by AXA in Egypt.
“By partnering with Uber and providing millions of Egyptians with protection and care, we hope to emphasise the relevance of insurance in all aspects of our customers’ lives and endeavours,” said Gilbert Chahine, CEO of AXA Egypt.
