Google’s ‘A Year in Search’ report details top 2016 trends in Egypt

Google issued its 2016 edition of its annual report “A Year in Search “, which provides a comprehensive vision of this year’s major events based on search queries that trended in Egypt.

Events topping Egypt’s search list include the recent bombing of the St. Peter and St. Paul Church, the Tiran and Sanafir islands case, and the funeral of the actor Mahmoud Abdel Aziz. These were among the top searched phrases in 2016.

Search terms in politics dominated Google user inquiries in 2016, for which the US presidential elections topped the list.

In the entertainment category, Egypt’s top searches focused on a few key films, including the films Hassan and Bo’loz, Abu Shanab, Gaheem fi Al-Hind (Hell in India), Hepta, Awlad Rezq (Rezq’s sons).

Among the top figures searched on Google in 2016 were Syrian poet Nizar Qabbani who came on top of the list, singer Ahmed Sheba, Amr Diab, and artists Mamdouh Abdul Aleem and Mirhan Hussein.

The most prominent public figures in Google searches were Nizar Qabbani and Ahmed Sheba.
