The 2016 Channel VAS Squash Championship concluded its events a few days ago in London, where Australia’s Paul Coll was named the champion and Egypt’s Tarek Momen finished as the runner-up.
The championship witnessed a strong participation by Egyptians. The following Egyptian champions participated: Mohamed El-Shorbagy, ranked 1st internationally; Omar Mosad, ranked 8th internationally; Marwan El-Shorbagy, ranked the 6th internationally; and Tarek Momen, ranked the 11th internationally.
Mosad exited the tournament in the first round, after he lost to South Africa’s Stephen Coppinger, with a score of 3-2 (8-11/9-11/11-6/11-6/3-11).
Mohamed El-Shorbagy also exited the tournament in the first round, after he lost to England’s Daryl Selby by 3-2 (11-13/11-9/11-9/8-11/9-11).
At the quarterfinals, Momen managed to win against his compatriot Marwan El-Shorbagy with a final score of 3-0 (12-10/11-5/11-8). Thus, Momen was the only Egyptian champion to qualify for the semifinals.
At the semifinals, Momen beat England’s Willstrop with a final score of 3-0 (11-9/11-9/11-9) in order to qualify for the final match.
Momen unfortunately lost to Coll in the final (11-7/13-11/11-4).
