Spinneys opened its second store in Cairo on 14 December, celebrating more than 10 years as Egypt’s foremost supplier of grocery and household products. The newest Spinneys supermarket is located in the upper-class neighbourhood of New Cairo in Arena Mall.

“We are overjoyed to be responding to requests by residents to open another store in New Cairo with our unique brand,” said Mohanad Adly, Spinney’s chief executive officer, in a statement issued on Sunday.

“The number of customers proves the Spinneys brand is highly valued in Egypt,” Adly added. “We’ve developed a format that enables us to offer a very large variety of quality goods at a very competitive price and in very convenient locations.”

The Arena Mall location will add 200 new jobs to the Spinneys workforce, which is comprised of a total 1,500 employees. Adly said that all new employees are considered “part of the Spinneys family”, and will receive exclusive benefits, including medical insurance, a rewarding incentive scheme and training programmes.

The latest Spinneys store is a multi-million Egyptian pound investment and is located on 3,500 sqm. It provides customers with products ranging from fresh meat to fruit and vegetables, as well as deli and dairy products. The Spinneys location will also offer non-food and general merchandise items.

Customers enrolled in the Spinneys loyalty programme will be able to use their subscription at the New Cairo location.

“We have an aggressive growth plan for Egypt with a very experienced retail team to see it through. Our strategy is to diversify our formats by opening big hypermarkets along with smaller size supermarkets conveniently located close to our customers.” Adly said

The new location brings the total number of Spinneys hypermarkets and supermarkets in Egypt to 10 stores.

An additional five Spinneys locations are expected to launch in 2017, with the next opening planned in January and located in Upper Egypt’s Minya.
