The German company Siemens completed the implementation of the first phase of Beni Suef, Borollos, and the New Administrative Capital power plants to add 4,800 MW to the national electricity grid.
The company announced that it set an international record in implementing the projects with such a tight timetable. The company fulfilled its promise by implementing the first phase in 18 months from the date of the signing of contracts, and exceeded the 4,400 MW capacities which had been agreed upon.
The added capacity of the first phase of Siemens projects will cover the electricity needs of more than 1 million citizens.
Sources from the government revealed that President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi will inaugurate the completion of the first phase of the Siemens projects next month.
The president was supposed to inaugurate the first phase of the projects via video-conference, but the German company’s commitment to complete the project within the agreed upon timetable will lead to important developments. The president may attend the opening in Beni Suef or the New Administrative Capital power plants.
Siemens CEO Joe Kaeser said that the company managed to adhere to its pledge to Egypt. The company also set a record through its outstanding performance in implementing developed electricity projects.
He added that the first phase of the projects emphasise the confidence of the Egyptian government in relying on Siemens in the implementation of vital projects required for the social and economic development processes.
Minister of Electricity Mohamed Shaker said that Siemens projects will represent an important addition to the government’s strategy to achieve efficiency in the energy system. He added that Siemens power plants are a great model that introduce the openness of Egypt and the state’s understanding of the importance of working with international partners, in order to push sustainable economic growth forward.
Shaker pointed out that energy plays a pivotal role in achieving economic development. He noted that the Ministry of Electricity is exerting great efforts to cover the growing demand on energy in Egypt at the highest level of efficiency, by achieving a balance between the demand on energy and the available ratio of supply. The ministry also ensures the optimal utilisation of the natural resources of the state.
Siemens is establishing three power plants with a turnkey system in Beni Suef, Borollos, and the New Administrative Capital at a capacity of 14,400 MW. Siemens’ power plants will rely on 24 Siemens gas turbines model H-Class, 12 steam turbines, 36 generators, and 24 heat exchangers, as well as three transformers stations operating with the insulating gas system (GIS) at a capacity of 500 KV.
