Parliament Speaker, Ali Abdel Aal, headed on Sunday to participate in the annual session of the Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly (EMPA) which was scheduled to take place on Monday, according to state media.
Parliament Secretary General, Ahmed Saad El-Din, will also attend the assembly.
In July 2016, a delegation from the Egyptian parliament visited Rome to attend an EMPA meeting, in which they reviewed an initiative related to fighting terrorism and discussed updates in the investigation surrounding the murder of Italian researcher Giulio Regeni.
The delegation was headed by the head of the parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Mohamed Al-Orabi.
Tarek El-Khouly, a member of parliament in the Foreign Affairs Committee, told Daily News Egypt that he does not expect Regeni’s case would be discussed during the EMPA’s annual session; however, no information has been reported so far about the topics that were reviewed or discussed.
