PM Sherif Ismail visited the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics’ (CAPMAS) headquarters to follow up on the progress of the general census of population, housing, and facilities for 2017.
During the visit, Ismail inspected the operations room of CAPMAS and was briefed on the progress of data collection and the early stages of the housing census to identify characteristics and components of residential and non-residential units.
He discussed with the leaders of CAPMAS the measures for implementing the next stages of the census and the recruitment of young graduates to conduct the process.
“The ongoing census would provide very valuable information and data, which will enable the government to build a comprehensive and detailed database on population and residential buildings and contribute to achieving sustainable development in various sectors,” said Ismail.
The planned database will also help decision makers plan and implement future policies.
Abu Bakr El Gendy, chairperson of CAPMAS, conducted a presentation on the different operational phases of the census, and said that the census data represents a fundamental base for different population estimates in the future, and the results will help shed light on most poor areas in the country which need more services.
“It would contribute to determine the population size, distribution, and growth rates, as well as the educational level. It also determines the relation between education level and family size, and identifies the size of manpower and employment as well as the occupational distribution of economic activities,” he concluded.
