Al-Warraq prosecution released on Monday five police officers involved in the case of firearms and drugs related to the Shubra Al-Kheima second district police station, and it ordered the imprisonment of three others, according to state-run newspaper Al-Ahram.
The prosecution’s decision to release the five police officers came after hearing their testimonies that came as evidence in the case and also proved their innocence. The five police officers included four working in Shubra’s police station, and one working at the Qaliubiya directorate of security.
On the other hand, the prosecution ordered the imprisonment of the head of the investigation bureau and two of his assistants pending investigations, for being proved guilty in the case. The three defendants are facing accusations of possession of firearms and narcotic substances, forgery in official documents, and fabricating cases to citizens.
The prosecution utilised radio and TV reports regarding recordings related to the head of the investigation bureau, which proved his involvement in the case, as well as the security forces. These demands came as a procedure to expedite the referral of the accused defendants to court.
The investigation revealed that the accused police officers were fabricating citizens’ possession of weapons; however, these acts were intended for fabricating cases, not for trading weapons.
