Police forces arrested a social specialist on Monday amid ongoing investigations into accusations of torturing children in Dar Ishraqa orphanage following the exposure of such cases—with severe marks on many children’s bodies.

The prosecution authority had already ordered a four-day detention for the orphanage’s manager pending interrogation.

The orphanage is owned by the wife of late former prime minister Atef Ebeid and is located in 6th of October City. Its manager was arrested, but Ebeid’s widow has not been arrested though.

At least a dozen children were reported to have been beaten, burnt, and sexually abused, according to medical reports.

The Ministry of Solidarity dissolved the orphanage’s board council and replaced it with a new administration.
