Both Banque Misr and the National Bank of Egypt (NBE) have decided to extend their working hours across the country to collect taxes electronically.

NBE has decided to extend working hours in 59 branches until 5.00pm during the period from 27 March to 31 March and the period from 24 April to 28 April to enable the branches to offer the services of collecting taxes, without carrying out any other banking activities.

According to a report issued by the bank, it was keen to choose specific branches in order to cover all geographic areas in the country and keep branches that are close to the relevant tax missions open.

The bank has instructed the branches to follow the rules regulating work with accuracy, where the tax proceeds collected from financers or mission representatives will be received regardless of their amounts based on the registered data, which will ensure the safety of the collection process.

The bank stressed that this measure is part of its role in serving the national economy and supporting the Egyptian Tax Authority (ETA) collect its dues during the peak periods of submitting tax returns in March and April of every year through an electronic collection system that allows collecting sovereign revenues of the state in a facilitated way to ease the burden on financers.

Banque Misr has also decided to extend working hours in 75 of its branches until 7:00 pm during the period from 22 March until 30 March, and the period from 23 April to 30 April 2017.

The bank said in its report that transactions can be carried out through the overseas, Talaat Harb, Alexandria, and Wadi El Nile branches on 24, 25, and 31 March. Transactions can also be carried out on 28 and 29 April starting from 2.00pm until 7.00pm.

Banque Misr allows electronic payment of taxes and customs through 297 branches spread across the governorate in cooperation with officials responsible for electronic payment of financial government institutions.

According to the bank, it aims to spare clients from risks, as well as facilitate the process of paying tax and custom dues. Clients are then provided with a document to prove their payment, and are allowed to pay through various ways, including cash or debiting an account. The service is available for clients and non-clients of the bank.

The service offered by the two banks is characterised by providing clients with both speed and security, where they do not have to pay inside the mission they are registered in. clients do not have to adhere to geographic spread either in order to facilitate making the payment as well as achieve decentralisation in tax collection, in addition to reducing the risks of carrying cash money to make payments.
