Arab Contractors has signed a contract with the ministry of public works in Kuwait to develop the Nuwaiseeb Road for KWD 170m, which is equivalent to EGP 10bn.
Mohsen Salah, chairperson of Arab Contractors, said that the timeframe for implementing the project is 36 months. The road is considered one of the pillars of the development plan in the field of roads to solve the problem of overcrowding in Kuwait.
He added that the project includes developing roads of a length of 37 km, which consist of three lanes in each direction, with two safety lanes and nine multi-storey intersections. 33 U turns will be closed as they caused many accidents. A two-lane bridge will also be constructed. All the bridges along the main road and turns include an extra lane in each direction, which allows developing the road in the future.
The development plan includes adding four bridges for the passage of camels, beautifying plants, and transferring and protecting services, including water, sewage, and rainwater networks.
Salah added that the company also aims to improve the traffic on southern roads, secure it on the upper bridges with the specifications of highways, and create entrances and exits on roads to serve the urban cities in the south of Kuwait.
He pointed out that the project is being implemented under the supervision of Parsons Brinckerhoff International Advisory Office in cooperation with Gulf Consult.
The contract was signed by Abdul Rahman Al Mutawa, the Kuwaiti minister of public works, and Mohsen Salah. The signing ceremony was attended by Awatef El Ghoneim, deputy minister of works, and Ghaleb Saffoq, assistant undersecretary for the construction projects sector at the ministry, in addition to Reda Rabea, vice chairperson of Arab Contractors, as well as Mohamed Dakroury, vice chairperson of the company in Kuwait.
Salah said that the company is currently carrying out the construction works of the fourth phase of the project to develop the Gahraa road in Kuwait, the first phase of which was inaugurated in January 2016. The work on the project was divided into five areas with a total length of 53km and a total cost of KWD 261m, in addition to several projects that were finished, such as Gaber Al Ahmed Al Sabbah Hospital, the largest hospital in the Middle East and the sixth largest hospital around the world, in addition to projects such as a police academy and the building of an Islamic studies college.
