President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi is to participate in the 28th Arab League Summit, set to take place on Wednesday.
According to a presidency statement, Al-Sisi’s participation comes as Egypt strives to enhance Arab national security and development.
Al-Sisi is expected to meet with several Arab leaders and officials during the summit. This will be the first time that he and Saudi Arabia’s King Salman will be present in the same political event since minor tensions rose between the two countries at the end of 2016.
The presidency statement added that Egypt’s agenda will focus on the status of Palestinian lands and on the current conflicts in Syria, Libya, Yemen, and Sudan, noting that counterterrorism will also be the centre of several meetings.
The summit comes as the region is facing severe problems when it comes to terrorism and military intervention, as well as undocumented immigration.
