The Egyptian Customs Authority (ECA) issued Resolution No. 10 of 2017, through which it clarified the authority’s lack of jurisdiction over customising and increasing the number of wheels of trucks and trailers after clearing them, adding that the agencies of jurisdiction are the traffic police departments and the General Authority for Roads, Bridges, and Land Transport.
The ECA explained that issuing the statement was issued since importers buy used trucks and alter the wheel axes and the number of wheels to increase load capacity. Traders then resorted to the ECA to issue an amendment to allow the traffic department to license the cars.
Several importers had issued notes to the ECA, asking it to allow them to make amendments to the chassis and wheel axes of the trucks to add more wheels, which would enable the vehicles to carry more loads.
