Suspicion of an explosion has been denied to be the cause of the EgyptAir plane crash after examining the bodies of French victims, sources told AFP on Friday.
The plane crashed into the Mediterranean Sea after disappearing from the radar while travelling from Paris to Cairo in mid-May, killing all on board—a total of 66 people.
The sources, who are close to the French investigators, reported that no traces of an explosion were found on the bodies of French victims, which “closes the door” about the explosion narrative that was previously stated by Egyptian authorities.
Egyptian security authorities previously suspected that there was a bomb in a briefcase left inside the cabin during cleaning the fuselage before takeoff; however, French investigators have always suggested that the cause of the crash was a mechanical fault.
Despite the crash, flights between both countries resumed.
Egypt’s tourism significantly declined following the 25 January Revolution; however, tourism suffered even more when a Russian aeroplane crashed shortly after taking off from Sharm El-Sheikh airport in October 2015. All 224 passengers and crew members on board were killed.
