Egypt’s navy rescued two fishermen from drowning after the sinking of the boat “Sailor’s Freedom”, military spokesperson Tamer El-Refaee said on Monday in an official statement.

The naval forces had received a call for help from the sheikh of fishermen in Damietta governorate after the boat collided with a ship in the Mediterranean Sea, which resulted in the boat’s sinking, according to the statement.

Seven sailors were onboard the boat. The forces managed to rescue two sailors only, found three dead sailors inside the boat, and did not find two others, the statement read.

According to the spokesperson, parts of the shipwreck were found 17 miles from Northern Damietta, while the main body of the boat was 24 metres below sea level.
