President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi is planning to attend and participate in the Visegrad Group summit on Monday in Budapest, Hungary.

Egypt’s participation in the summit will be the first of its kind for an Arab or Middle Eastern country.

Usual participants of the meeting include Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic. The summit was formed in 2011, with the goal of increased cooperation between the countries.

According to a statement from the Egyptian Presidency by spokesperson Alaa Youssef, Al-Sisi will meet Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán with the aim of discussing bilateral relations between the two countries.

Egypt also has its eye on cooperation opportunities in the field of transportation and industry. Egyptian delegates from the ministry of transportation will be present at the summit.

Al-Sisi is also expected to hold meetings with Hungarian officials during the three-day visit to further boost the country’s relations.

In June of last year, Orbán met with Al-Sisi and witnessed the signing of the five memorandum of understanding (MoU) in various fields, such as water resources and agriculture.
