The number of mobile subscribers rose by 1%, reaching 99.9m subscribers in March compared to 98.87m in February, according to a report by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT). The number of internet users increased from 33.1m in February to 38.2m in March, marking an increase of approximately 5m users.
Nevertheless, the net growth in the number of internet users—supported by mobile internet services—increased from 25.2m in February 2017 to 30.4m in March 2017, a growth of 20.1%.
The number of USB modem internet users decreased slightly to 3.3m subscribers in March compared to 3.33m subscribers in February 2017, a decline of 0.71%.
The report of MCIT monitored the growth of ADSL users by 4.5% last March, bringing the number of ADSL users up from 4.3m in February 2017 to 4.5m in March 2017.
Cairo accounted for the largest share of the number of users of high-speed ADSL with 42%, then the Delta region with 29% and the governorates of Upper Egypt with 12%, followed by the cities of Alexandria and Matrouh with 11%, and then the cities of the Canal and the Red Sea with 6%.
On the other hand, the report revealed a decline in the number of fixed land line users by 6% in March, settling at 6.2m users in March, down from 6.6m users in February 2017.
