Khaled Ismail, the director of external relations at Japan Tobacco International (JTI), said the company will continue supplying the market with all its products without any increases in prices.
He pointed out that JTI will only increase the price of its products if the government increases the tax on cigarettes.
The Eastern Tobacco company raised the prices of a number of its products yesterday by between 4 and 17.6%.
Abdel Moneim Matar, a Value Added Affairs’ adviser of the Minister of Finance, said that the tax on cigarette products has not yet been raised.
He added that the trend of the Eastern Tobacco company to increase the prices of a number of its products is a price policy of the company, pointing out that taxes amount to 50% of the price of the selling value.
