GB Ghabbour Auto, Hyundai’s distributor in Egypt, has launched Hyundai Sonata in Egypt in difficult times.

Despite the decline of auto sales in the domestic market, GB released its new model of the luxury sedan, after applying some amendments by the parent company including 1,600 CC Turbo engine to comply with the local market.

Although the parent company announced that it had made some fundamental modifications, especially in the interior of Sonata, GB confirmed that these amendments will not be available in the near future.

The Egyptian agent decided to release the new model after carrying out many tests within the company which showed its full suitability with the local market.

Daily News Egypt (DNE) conducted a test drive on the Sonata to get closely acquainted with the car’s power and performance, in cooperation with GB Ghabbour Auto.

Design

The Hyundai Sonata 2018 has no significant modification in exterior and interior design, especially since it belongs to the seventh-generation that was released in 2015.

It is natural that this generation will continue for at least four or five years, until a new generation will appear with fundamental developments in design and features of the car by 2019.

The front of Sonata is basically the same as Hyundai Elantra. It features Hyundai’s usual cascading grille which carries a chrome-plated brand symbol.

Sharper lines and LED running lights give the nose a more assertive attitude and more road presence. The side profile has new crisp lines and a new taillight design.

The new model features a rear-view camera. Options include smart cruise control, auto emergency braking, rear parking sensors and lane-keep assist with driver attention alert.

Note that those who want a panoramic sunroof will have to look for a 2017 Sonata.

Engine, safety and stability

The car now has a 188-hp turbo engine at 6,000 rounds per minute with a 7-speed transmission.

The new 3-spoke steering wheel has a more upscale design, and the overall look and feel of the interior is more premium than before. One thing you do lose from the 2017 model is the handy door that covered the area where the USB port and aux jack is, which was an easy way to keep small items like smartphone cords out of view when the car is parked.

Sonata also featured a two-faceted air conditioner with rear air-vent fitted to each passenger separately.

The car has sport cloth seats that have leather bolsters and contrast stitching.

New technology

Sonata has advanced technology, including a turbo engine and footprint, which allows you to open and close doors without having to use a remote control.

In the higher category, the rear trunk can be opened by approaching the key, making it easier for the owner to open the trunk and his hands are busy.

The car is available in three price categories

GL 530,000

GLS LUXURY 590,000

GLS TOPLINE 650,000
