For years, both governmental and civil society have been joining efforts in order to help people with special abilities to fit in the Egyptian society. However, similar to many other social activities, they were only centred in Egypt’s big cities of Cairo and Alexandria. Aiming to break that cycle, Sports and Youth Directorate in North Sinai organised an entertaining festival for people with special needs.
The festival saw the light with the help of Cultural Development Fund and non profit organizations for supporting people with special needs.
It aims to support young youth in fitting in society as well as supporting their musical, artistic and sports talents.
“People with special needs are an unbreakable segment of society. They present an important part that can either affect society in a positive or a negative way,” Ihab Hassan, general manager of
Sports and Youth Directorate told a state media outlet.
Hassan added that Egypt cares the most with its disabled people noting that the development of any country can be detected by the care it provides people with special needs, adding that these segments should receive all of its rights in order to be able to give its power of innovation and creativity.
From her side, Magdolen El-Sharawy, the head of Social Rehabilitation Office for Disabled in Egypt stated that three additional offices were opened in North Sinai, making it the second governorate with the most existing offices to support people with special needs adding that they are currently working on expanding offices across Egypt in order to help the disabled with their talents, as well as raise family awareness on how to deal with them and help them fit in the society.
