Pope Tawadros launches Coptic Orthodox church in Australia

Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria launched on Sunday the St. Verena and St. Bishoy Coptic Orthodox Church in Melbourne.

Some representatives of the Christian communities in Melbourne attended the opening of the church.

Following his arrival to Melbourne, the pope was received by mayor Robert Doyle in which he attended a joint press conference. Mayors of different Australian cities attended the conference.

He further gave a speech at the Melbourne School of Theology (MST), which is an evangelical Christian theological college. The pope also met with the governor of Victoria on Friday in Sydney.

Pope Tawadors arrived to Australia in his second stop in a Pastoral tour on 30 August and scheduled to return to Cairo on 13 September. Top bishops accompanied Pope Tawadros during his tour.

This was his first visit to Australia since his inauguration in November 2012.

During the current pastoral tour, the pope attended the launching of the first Coptic church in Kyoto, Japan.
