Housing Ministry completes draft amendments for non-falling building demolition, heritage building preservation law

The Ministry of Housing announced completing the draft amendments for Law No. 144 of 2006 regarding the regulation of demolition of non-falling buildings and preservation of heritage buildings.

Minister of Housing Mostafa Madbouly said that the draft law will be sent to the cabinet within days for discussion and approval, and then sent to Parliament.

The draft law includes determining the competent authority to intervene urgently to preserve the heritage buildings, and to allow the owner or occupants of these buildings to maintain and restore heritage buildings, after the approval of the National Organization for Urban Harmony and under its supervision.

Furthermore, the draft law includes the establishment of a special fund to finance the maintenance and restoration works of heritage buildings. Moreover, mechanisms will be put in place to provide licences for the works required on these buildings in accordance with the provisions of this law.
