The parliament’s majority bloc “Egypt’s Support” have announced on Saturday it will launch a campaign to demand President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to run for another presidential term, according to state media.
In press statements, head of the coalition Mohamed Al-Swedy said that they will ask the president to run for another term, “believing in their loyal patriotic performance for the Egyptian state, which included the establishment of main national projects.”
The coalition vowed to mobilise and organise popular conferences to emphasise people in the upcoming presidential elections. The campaign will be announced when the coalition will inaugurate several branches in other governorates.
The elections are expected to take place next June. So far, no candidate has officially announced their programme or revealed information about his campaign.
Earlier this week, the political party “Future of Nation” has officially adopted a campaign supporting the re-election of Al-Sisi.
The campaign named “Alshan Tebneha” (For You to Build It), has announced that it already has headquarters in 13 governorates. The campaign has a petition to be signed by potential members or volunteers. The petition reads, “So we can clear it out of terrorism; so we can maintain our leadership; so we can complete our projects; so we can educate our children; so we can counter corruption; therefore, I hereby demand the re-election of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi for another presidential term.”
So far, social media users posted photos of celebrities signing the petition, including football players, actors, TV presenters, and public figures.
The presidential election results were announced on 3 June 2014, with Al-Sisi winning 96.9% of valid votes, beating his only contender, Nasserist politician Hamdeen Sabahy.
