The Central Administration of Archaeological Units in Egyptian Ports seized on Sunday a set of historical documents with a presidential letter and an archaeological badge in an attempt to illegally transfer them to the United Arab Emiratis through express mail Customhouse.
The confiscated items included an inheritance document for one of Egyptian citizens names Othman Pasha with the date of 1263 Hijri (1874), and an accreditation letter from late president Gamal Abdel Nasser to Ahmed Farghaly, one of Egypt’s most famous businessmen at Nasser’s era who was dubbed the king of Cotton. The found letter dates back to 27 April 1958 and had the country’s official stamp on it.
Ahmed Al-Rawy, Head of the Central Administration for Antiquities Units in Ports stated in a press release that the seized badge had the name of Sultan Abdel Aziz Khan written on it. Khan is one of Ottoman Empire’s kings who ruled Egypt.
Officials assured that the captured items are archaeological ones that follow Egyptian authorities. Therefore, both the badge and the document were handed to the ministry of Antiquities whilst the letter was transferred to the ministry of Culture in order to be displayed at Gamal Abdel Nasser museum in Heliopolis.
