The average international income for transport and logistics is estimated at $700bn, says Ahmed Mustafa
In its quest to regain African and international status, Egypt is now being represented by engineer Ahmed Mustafa as the vice president of the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) for the Africa and Middle East region. Mustafa’s win was announced during the general assembly meeting that was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on the sidelines of the annual FIATA Congress.
Within that context, Mustafa expressed his happiness for the position’s restoration to Egypt after more than four years, since the apology of Mazen Nadim, who held the post from 2009 to 2013. He added that the competition for the position was severe and that Egypt’s victory supports international transport and logistics in Egypt and provides an excellent opportunity to promote the economic zone of the Suez Canal.
The Egyptian Mission for International Transport and Logistics has attended more than 13 meetings in numerous countries, including Tanzania, Morocco, and Switzerland, to secure Egypt’s winning this position.
Mustafa stressed that Egypt’s presence in such a position supports the growth of the freight market, as well as provides new developments in the field of international transport and logistics, including the technological tide and the use of modern technology in Egypt, adding that the average international income for transport and logistics is estimated at about $700bn—about 15% of world trade. He also pointed out that he already applied to FIATA in order to host the region’s 2019 or 2020 meeting in Egypt.
It’s worth mentioning that Egypt hosted the meeting of the region previously. Moreover, Egypt also hosted the FIATA Congress, which includes the entire regions of Europe, Asia, the Americas, Africa, and the Middle East, in the presence of more than 1,000 businessmen and representatives of international transport organisations, the World Bank, the World Trade Organisation, the European Union, and COMESA, back in 2011.
It’s known that FIATA also offers specialised international transport, logistics, and advanced diplomas for over 1,100 students in the field.
