Head of the Industrial Control Authority (ICA), Ibrahim Elmonesterly, said that the authority conducted 810 inspection campaigns last October, including the withdrawal of samples and taking the required legal procedures by inspecting factories’ compliance with standards, including quality standards of their products. In addition, 281 specialised technical and economic studies were conducted in the areas of temporary permits, production volumes, 102 steam boilers and heat machine licenses, 73 service and maintenance centres (after-sales service), technical studies, advice, inspections of committees, and registration of printing presses.

Head of the Chemistry Department, Magdy Fahmy, said that in October, the department conducted tests, including laboratory tests for 4,533 samples, compared to 2,479 during the same month of last year—an increase of 82%—in the headquarters of the department in Cairo and its branches in Alexandria, Suez, and Assiut. It produced 857 litres of secret ink added to the coloured material to seal meat at all the butchers in the country.

Moreover, Minister of Commerce and Industry Tarek Kabil said that the ministry is keen to activate the role of regulatory bodies to counter all methods of cheating and non-conforming products by applying new and varied mechanisms to ensure that factories and maintenance centres comply with standard specifications for goods and services, and produce safe and identical goods.
