Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn is to deliver a speech at the Egyptian Parliament during his upcoming visit to Cairo scheduled for December.
Ethiopian Ambassador to Egypt Taye Atske-Selassie met with Chairperson of the African Affairs Committee Sayed Feleifel on Monday. They discussed the Renaissance Dam project. Atske-Selassie reassured members of the African Committee that Addis Ababa would not do harm to their Egyptian brothers, local media reported.
Talks on the Renaissance Dam were stalled after the Tripartite Committee meeting on 12 November failed to reach an agreement.
Ethiopia refused to acknowledge the impact of the Renaissance Dam on Egypt’s share of Nile water as specified in a 1959 treaty, on grounds that it was never consulted on the agreement, according to The Ethiopian Reporter news organisation.
