In a fierce competition, Egyptian football legend Mahmoud El-Khatib won on Thursday the presidential election to become the chairperson of Al-Ahly Sporting Club against his competitor Mahmoud Taher.
El-Khatib, nicknamed as “Bibo”, received 20,956 votes while Taher, who has been the club’s president since 2014, got 13,182.
As for the vice president seat, Mustafa Fahmy, former Confederation of African Football (CAF) general secretary, lost the seat to his opponent, former sports minister El Amry Farouk, with 14,269 votes versus 19,923 votes, respectively.
El-Khatib was previously named Africa’s best football player in 1983.
