Habib El-Adly arrived at Cairo prosecution after arrest

The Mubarak-era minister of interior, Habib El-Adly, arrived at the Central Cairo Prosecution, after the Ministry of Interior identified his whereabouts and arrested him on Tuesday.

The minister was a fugitive, evading serving a court ruling related to a corruption case against him. He is expected to serve a seven-year prison sentence that the Cairo Criminal Court handed him in absentia.

The prosecution will also investigate El-Adly’s evasion of justice.

On 16 May, the ministry announced that El-Adly escaped and was not at his home in Sixth of OctoberCity, according to state-owned media.

El-Adly and with several of his top aides were accused of embezzling money from the ministry, which he was convicted for. Recently, the Central Cairo Prosecution ordered the Ministry of Interior to arrest El-Adly in order to execute his sentencing. In addition to seven years of prison hard labour, he was also ordered to return an embezzled sum of EGP 196m, in addition to a similar sum as a fine.
