The school year began at Dabaa Technical School and will see the training of 75 engineering technicians.

Over 1,200 students have applied to join the technical school while only 75 have been selected, 30 from Marsa Matrouh and 45 from all other governorates, a 40 to 60 ratio.

Government sources said the selected students had passed several stages before admission to the technical school in Dabaa, beginning with a capacity test and questions in science and mathematics.

The school includes three departments: electricity, mechanics, and electronics. Study will last for five years and students will select a speciality in their fourth year.

Sources explained that the Nuclear Power Plants Authority (NPPA) has trained 22 teachers from several governorates, who will manage preparing nuclear energy-related subjects and trainings for students of the technical school.

The school is set up on an area of 5.8 acres in Marsa Matouh, at a cost of EGP 70m, including EGP 43m for construction and EGP 28m for labs and equipment.

The government has signed a contract with Russia to set up a nuclear power plant in Dabaa to produce 4,800 MW of electricity. The government aims to maximise the participation of local companies and optimise the utilisation of Russian expertise.
