25-year-old Salah wins BBC African Footballer of the Year

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah continued his impressive football career by being named BBC African Footballer of the Year 2017 on Monday.
Salah was the third Egyptian and fifth Arab player to win the trophy, preceded by Mohamed Barakat (2005), Mohamed Abu Trika (2008), and Algerians Yassin Brahimi (2014) and Riad Mehrez (2016).
Salah surpassed the five African players who made the shortlist for African Footballer of the Year, including Manchester United defender Eric Bailly, Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Guinean and future Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita, current Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane of Senegal, and Nigeria’s Victor Moses.
Leicester forward Riyad Mahrez won the same trophy last year, Yaya Toure in 2015, Yacine Brahimi in 2014, and Yaya Toure again in 2013.
The BBC title was also won by Patrick M’Boma (2000), Samuel Kuffour (2001), El Hadji Diouf (2002), Jay-Jay Okocha (2003-2004), Mohamed Barakat (2005), Michael Essien (2006), Emmanuel Adebayor (2007), Mohamed Abu Trika (2008), Didier Drogba (2009), Asamoah Gyan (2010), André Ayew (2011), and Christopher Katongo (2012).
