2.3 million patients treated at state expense in 2016: CAPMAS

The total number of patients  treated at the expense of the state in 2016, internally and abroad, was estimated at 2.3 million, at a cost of EGP 5.1bn, compared to 1.8 million patients at a cost of EGP 4.5bn in 2015, with an 11% increase in treatment costs according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS).

CAPMAS noted that the total number of hospitals is 662 hospitals in 2016, compared to 660 hospitals in 2015, an increase of 0.3%.

CAPMAS added that the total number of university hospitals is 86 hospitals in 2016, compared to 85 hospitals in 2015, an increase of 1.2%, in addition to 93897 beds in 2016, compared to 93267 beds in 2015, a 0.7% increase.

As for the private sector, the total number of hospitals reached 1,017 in 2016, compared to 1,002 in 2015, an increase of 1.5%.

CAPMAS pointed out that the total number of beds in these hospitals reached 32,698 beds in 2016 compared to 31,094 beds in 2015, showing an increase of 5.2%.
