President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi approved on Wednesday the law to regulate the usage and trade of electronic and wireless drones.
The law, which was ratified by the Egyptian Parliament early this month, entails that the Ministry of Defence will be in charge of regulating the ownership and use of drones.
It also said that anyone who violates the law will be subject to prison sentences ranging from one to seven years and a possible EGP 50,000 fine.
The bill defined the usage of the motorised aircraft. In Article 2, the law warned administrative institutions affiliated with the government, ministries, general unions, companies, public bodies, the private sector, and citizens not to import, manufacture, gather, trade, posses, or use drones without the permission of the concerned authority.
Moreover, according to Article 3, the penalty could be toughened to execution in the case of any entity or person using, possessing, or trading drones for terrorism.
That article also said that courts shall confiscate the machines and tools used in crimes, for the benefit of the armed forces.
