Foreign Affairs Minister Sameh Shoukry will head to the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa on Wednesday evening to attend the preparatory meetings of the 30th African Union (AU) Summit.
The summit will be held this year under the theme “Winning the Fight against Corruption: A Sustainable Path to Africa’s Transformation,” said the ministry spokesperson.
This year has also adopted the theme, declaring 2018 as the African Anti-corruption year.
He pointed out that the choice of the theme’s subject comes in the light of the African Union’s awareness of how great a priority it is to combat corruption and to avoid wasting public wealth for the sake of using it in developing the continent.
Shoukry will head Egypt’s delegation during the meetings of the Executive Council, the sessions of annual report of the Chairperson of the AU Commission, and the report of the 10 African Finance Ministers Committee (F10).
He will also attend a session to discuss the report of the Agenda 2063 Ministerial Follow-up Committee.
Shoukry will further participate in the meeting of the African Union Ministerial Committee on African Candidatures in the international system to examine the nominations submitted by African countries for positions in international organizations, in addition to the election of 10 new members of the Peace and Security Council.
