China world’s top smartphone consumer in 2017

China topped the list of smartphone consumer countries in 2017. The Chinese market saw the sale of 454.4m devices in 2017, up from 448.5m in 2016.

Emerging countries in the Pacific region ranked second on the list, with over 232.7m devices shipped, compared to 214.5m in 2016.

North America came in third place, where more than 201.3m smartphones were sold in that region in 2017, compared to 198.2m in 2016.

The Middle East and Africa (MEA) region ranked fourth on the list, with more than 176.5m devices sold in 2017, up from 168.9m smartphones in 2016.

Western Europe, which received about 125.6m smartphones in 2017, followed on the list. This figure shows a decline compared to 131m devices sold in 2016.

Latin American countries received more than 115.8m devices in 2017, compared to 105.9m in 2016. Moreover, about 85.2m smartphones were sold in Eastern and Central Europe region in 2017, against 78m in 2016. Finally, the developed countries of the Pacific region saw sale of 68.5m devices in 2017, compared to 72.9m in 2016.
