The Library of Alexandria, or Bibliotheca Alexandrina, announced on Friday establishing a new Egyptology centre in Cairo’s Smart Village under the direct supervision of former minster of antiquities Zahi Hawas, according to state media outlet EgyNews.
Zahi Hawas for Egyptology Centre aims to document archaeological heritage and will be located in the centre that is owned by the Bibliotheca.
The centre is established as part of the Bibliotheca’s role in documenting Egyptian scientists who had served the world with their science and achievements.
In a statement published by Bibliotheca Alexandrina, it explained that the centre will encompass research, education, and training departments, and will organise several archaeological, historical, and educational workshops, as well as offer scholarships to students working on scientific research. Moreover, the centre is to offer Zahi Hawas awards to the best archaeological research.
The centre is named after Zahi Hawas due to the important role he has achieved internationally with his books and lectures that enriched Egyptology studies worldwide.
The centre will open its doors this month, with its first event scheduled for Monday, when Hawas will meet at the Giza pyramids with children who are passionate about history and discuss with them the details of building the pyramids and other aspects of Egypt’s long history.
