Parliamentary sources said that six ministries will submit semi-annual reports in their final account for the past fiscal year to various committees of the House of Representatives in accordance with the governmental programmes and performance budgetary evaluation scheme before the end of February.

Three ministries have submitted their semi-annual reports to the planning and budget committee, which are the Ministries of Housing, Solidarity, and Transport, while the Ministries of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Education, And Communications will hand over their reports within the next few days, the parliamentary sources said.

The planning and budget committee is working to include 10 new ministries to the oversight scheme in the next fiscal year, raising the total number of ministries to 16.

Parliamentary sources said that the biggest obstacles facing the various ministries in the implementation of the system is the lack of trained employees and weak financial allocations to them.

“There is technical support from international financial institutions to work on the system of budgeting programmes and performance in order to ensure and raise efficiency of government performance across various different executive bodies,” they said.

An official at the Ministry of Planning and Administrative Reform told Daily News Egypt in previous statements that the ministry is working to monitor the performance of various ministries in their commitments to projects under construction so as to improve the lives of citizens.

The official added that the political leadership is keen to apply these standards to become a “smart government” and achieve high growth rates that improve the standard of living of Egyptian citizens.
