“If you want to improve your income, join Uber,” is the slogan of Uber Egypt. Driving most of the day in Egypt is exhausting. However, many Egyptians found that joining Uber as drivers alongside their basic jobs is the easiest way to improve their income, whether they have their own cars or not.
The company said on its Facebook page that the number of drivers who joined Uber reached 150,000 in 2017 only.
Further, the company affirmed that income with Uber may range between EGP 4,000- EGP 12,000 per month.
Half of drivers depend on Uber for part time work, while 22% of drivers used to work for tourism prior to driving with Uber, according to the company’s statistics.
The company added that the age of 70% of its drivers ranges between 15 and 35 years old and that 52% of them have college degrees.
In late January, general manager of Uber Egypt Abdellatif Waked revealed the company’s strategy of geographic and service expansion during the current year.
Waked said that the company aims to be present in more than one governorate in the Delta region in 2018, in addition to its presence in Cairo, Alexandria, and recently, Daqahlia governorate.
He noted that the company is studying with the Ministries of Investment and Transport mechanisms of providing collective transport services, either through mass transport buses or through the service uberPOOL.
That service allows several customers to take the same car, contributing to facing traffic congestion and providing a flexible and accessible means of transport for more than 4 million passengers who made trips through the app in 2017.
Meanwhile, in early February, Sawiris Foundation launched ‘Meshwar Aman’ project to employ 500 young people at Uber in Cairo and Alexandria.
