Egypt expressed deep concern over the latest updates in Eastern Ghouta in Syria, and its serious consequences on the humanitarian situation and the situation of civilians there, according to a statement by Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Abou Zeid on Wednesday.
The statement affirmed the need to reach an armistice in order to let humanitarian aids enter the region, and allow the injured to leave, and to avoid a serious humanitarian catastrophe.
Egypt also condemned bombing the civil habitats in Ghouta, Damascus, and the entire Syria. The statement reaffirmed that Egypt will continue efforts and communications with the all concerned parties to reach a solution for the humanitarian crisis in the city.
The ministry of foreign affairs also re-mentioned Egypt’s efforts on the humanitarian side in frame of the Egyptian view for reaching a political solution for the crisis and to preserve the unity of Syria as well as defeating terrorism.
On Thursday, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley called on the Security Council to pass a draft resolution calling for a 30-day ceasefire in eastern Ghouta, as the Syrian forces backed by Russian warplanes continued to bomb the Damascus suburb killing about 270 including 60 children in three days.
