An Egyptian delegation from the communication and information technology sector, headed by Minister of Communications and Information Technology Yasser El-Kady, will be participating in the Mobile World Congress, organised by the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA). It is being held in Barcelona, Spain from 26 February to 1 March under the title “Creating a Better Future”. The conference will include the participation of ministers, executives, and international companies in the field of communications and information technology (IT).
The Egyptian delegation includes members of the administration of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) as well as from Telecom Egypt (TE), as the Mobile World Congress is deemed one of the most important international events in the world of communications. This year, it will discuss the most important technologies and services to be presented in the upcoming years, including the fifth generation of mobile networks (5G) and the Internet of Things (IoT), which will provide many services and applications to all users of telecommunications services. Nearly 2,300 exhibitors and 320 speakers from around the world are taking part in the event.
During the conference, El-Kady will meet CEOs of major global IT companies to discuss major investment projects in the Egyptian telecommunications sector and the readiness of the Egyptian market to receive 5G services and manufacture communications equipment. Moreover, the minister will discuss developing the investments of international companies in Egypt and becoming acquainted with the latest technologies offered by these companies. The minister will also be meeting senior officials from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), as well as heads of the GSMA and the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Number (ICANN), and will be holding meetings with a number of ministers and other senior officials.
Noteworthy, during the conference, there will be promotions for the nominations of the Egyptian administration officials for membership in the boards of directors of the ITU and the Radio Regulations Board, as voting will take place this October at the Plenipotentiary Conference 2018 in Dubai, the UAE.
