The Russian Federal Service for the Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor) has issued a stern warning to the hotels of Volgograd, which will host the match between Egypt and Saudi Arabia at the end of Group A of the 2018 World Cup.
According to the Russian news agency Tass, the Rospotrebnadzor confirmed that hotels in the city of Volgograd are trying to discredit Russia during the World Cup, as the prices of hotels are 20 times the usual price of a night’s stay in the range of RUB 130,000, which is equivalent to $2,300, or EGP 41,000, which is the price at Hotel Gallery Park Volgograd.
Hotel Gallery Park Volgograd is the most famous hotel in the city, which has 314 hotels. Hotels in the city are between three and seven stars, making the city’s hotels able to accommodate nearly 21,000 people a day.
The Russian parliament, the Federal Assembly, is considering setting up a price list for hotels during the tournament to prevent fans from being exploiting during the tournament.
Egypt will start the World Cup against Uruguay on 15 June in Yekaterinburg and then play with host Russia in Saint Petersburg. The first round match against Saudi Arabia will be held on 25 June.
Russia will host the World Cup between 14 June and 15 July in 11 Russian cities.
