US President Donald Trump ousted on Tuesday his Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. Trump made the announcement on Twitter and said his CIA Director Mike Pompeo will replace Tillerson as the US secretary of state.
“Mike Pompeo, Director of the CIA, will become our new Secretary of State. He will do a fantastic job! Thank you to Rex Tillerson for his service!” Trump tweeted. “Gina Haspel, the Deputy Director of the CIA, will be nominated to replace Director Pompeo.”
For his part, Pompeo thanked Trump for the decision. He added in a statement that Trump’s leadership “has made America safer” and “I look forward to representing him and the American people to the rest of the world to further America’s prosperity.”
