23.6% increase in Egyptian wheat stocks in 2016/2017

Egyptian wheat stocks reached 332,000 tonnes in 2016/2017 compared to 268,700 tonnes in 2015/2016, marking an increase of 23.5%, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS)’s annual bulletin on storage statistics for 2016/2017.

The CAPMAS report stated that the total number of silos in the public and private sectors reached 18 in 2016/2017 compared to 19 silos in 2015/2016, a decrease of 5.3%.

Meanwhile, the total number of refrigerators in the public and private sectors, which are used for storage, reached 244 in 2016/2017 compared to 253 refrigerators in 2015/2016, a decrease of 3.6%.

Frozen beef accounted for 15.7% of total meats and their products, where the end-of-year balance reached 1,000 tonnes in 2016/2017 compared to 3,700 tonnes in 2015/2016, a decrease of 73.3%, due to increased outgoing meat during the year compared to the total amount.

Stored potatoes reached 76.3% of the total fruits and vegetables group, where the end-of-year balance reached 34,300 tonnes in 2016/2017 compared to 34,200 tonnes in 2015/2016, an increase of 0.4%.

The number of barns and storage warehouses leased to others in the public and private sectors reached 471 in 2016/2017 compared to 492 barns in 2015/2016, a decrease of 4.3%.

The total number of storage warehouses in the public and private sectors, which are used for storage for others, reached 1,087 in 2016/2017 compared to 1,143 storages in 2015/2016, a decrease of 4.9%.

Stored wheat stocks reached 99.7% of total grains and their products, where the end-of-year balance reached 453,800 tonnes in 2016/2017 compared to 794,900 tonnes in 2015/2016, a decrease of 42.9%.

Nitrogen fertiliser balances reached 13.5% of the total manufactured fertilisers group, where the end-of-year balance reached 1,200 tonnes in 2016/2017 compared to 4,600 tonnes in 2015/2016, a decrease of 74.8%.
